Based on our acclaimed Frontier pickup, the Xterra is designed to keep up with your
lifestyle, and keep going as long as you do.
Power: The 170-hp 3.3-liter V6 lets you tow up to 5,000 pounds (automatic
transmission only), thanks to 200 ft-lbs of torque, 90% of which is generated at a
mere 1,500 rpm. Don't need that much engine? The 4-cylinder is no slacker - it
delivers 143 horses and 154 ft-lbs of torque, and can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Traction: Choose between traction-enhancing 4WD or economical 2WD. Either
way, your Xterra rides on road-gripping, 235/75R15 all-season tires with standard
anti-lock brakes. Larger 265 tires and Limited Slip are available.
Suspension: All Xterras feature an agile yet sturdy double wishbone front with
stabilizer bar, and solid axle rear with leaf spring and stabilizer bar. The ground
clearance ranges from 8.7 inches on the 4x2 4-cylinder Xterra to 9.2 inches on the
4x2 V6 Xterra.
Durability: The body-on-frame design features a full-length, steel-reinforced ladder
frame that provides rugged strength and a resilient backbone for towing and hauling.
Nissan's unique DURASTEEL® body panels offer superior corrosion protection. And
the 4-cylinder engine incorporates a maintenance-free timing chain. Writes Open
Road magazine editor Ron Sessions, "With the Xterra's truck suspension and frame,
I feel like I'm driving an indestructible vehicle" (Open Road, Spring 1999). |
